2 months!

Where has the time gone?!
She's so big and happy! Her 8 week appt is tomorrow morning- will update her stats as well as Levi's 2 year when we get them.

Ok, so I know I said I wouldn't update again. However..

LILA IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!

As in, 7 hours or more!! So I'm a bit more rested and able to get a few more things done because getting up in the morning isn't as exhausting as usual.

Nothing big. We decided AGAINST a party of toddlers and chaos since it would have to be inside. So we just did dinner and cupcakes with a new train set for Levi (no picture of that, I forgot)

Oh and I've finished Christmas shopping! Hoorah! only 22 more days! I'm so excited to see Levi open presents.

So Busy

There's so much to do in such little time. Here's a quick "we're still alive" post.
Lila is doing great. She will be 6 weeks this Friday (Nov 30th) She eats well and is starting to sleep longer. Our record is 6 hours. Last night was a 6 hour and then a 4 hour stretch.
At her 2 week appt she was average (50%) for head size, 30% for weight (she WAS a small baby) and then 75% for height.
I always joke with Tim and say all our boys are going to be blonde and short like me but thick like Tim. And then all the girls are going to be brunette and tall like Tim and then skinnier like me.
He's not a fan of that idea.

Levi turned 2 years old about 2 weeks ago. We didn't do a party. We did do a few presents (train set) and cupcakes. No big party though. He doesn't go in for his 2 yr appt until December when Lila also goes in for her 8 week.

So, that's it for now. I HAVE been taking pictures, I just don't have time to post them. We're hosting my family Christmas Party, I have homework and finals to worry about, plus handle 2 children at home. Don't be surprised if we don't update again til after the holidays are over! Birthdays- Lila Photos

My sweet baby girl was the best birthday gift. If she had waited a few more hours then we would have shared our birthdays too. Our family is notorious for sharing birthdays/anniversaries etc. So I'm glad she came the day before so she gets her OWN day.
Also, Tim bought me three bags of dark chocolate covered cranberries for my birthday. They are my guilty pleasure. Although the dark chocolate and dried cranberries are good for you... when you eat them in abundance, I'm sure they're not so healthy. I try to eat them in moderation.

Lila is doing great, she sleeps a lot but has her awake periods too. Nights aren't too bad, she goes about 3 hours between feedings. Breastfeeding is also going so smoothly (so different than Levi) She had the hang of it with a good latch within hours of her being born. All soreness on my end has subsided (THANK GOODNESS)
On a more comical note, Tim is also glad the soreness has gone away and loves my more curvy and "full" upper body. Ha ha.

Levi is taking to Lila very well. He was afraid of her at first and didn't want much to do with her. I think it was all too new. By the time we brought her home from the hospital he was touching her gently and kissing her on the head. He hasn't shown any interest in holding her so I won't push it.

As far as the "terrible twos" stage goes? It's still awful. The communication barrier is what makes it hard because he can't tell us what's wrong or why he's feeling the way he feels.

The full details:
I was scheduled for a c-section on Monday October 22nd because we found out that the baby was breech. Tim got home from work on Friday October 19th, at 4pm and cooked some steaks for dinner that he had picked up earlier that day. Fifteen minutes after we ate, Tim's brother Tom called him to just to chat and all of the sudden i felt a strange pop in my belly and realized that my pants were starting to get wet. "TIM MY WATER JUST BROKE" I yelled. Tim yelled over the phone to Tom, "Sarah's water just broke I gotta go!" and hung up the phone. Tim started freaking out and getting all the bags and Levi ready to go as I called the hospital to make sure the I need to go in. The operator said yes and we rushed to the hospital. Tim took advantage of the flasher situation driving 70 mph down a 45 mph limit road. We pulled up to hospital and the complimentary valet parking attendant gave a ticket and we ran inside. Once in the birthing center i was checked into triage and the nurse wanted to get another ultrasound to make sure that the baby had not flipped, but when she physically checked me and felt a foot instead a head she said they did not need an ultrasound. They rushed me into the O.R. and Tim had to wait outside with they gave me my spinal. After that moment I lost all feeling from my lower chest down. The nurses began to panic when the umbilical chord unexpectedly came out. If the chord comes out and gets pinched it causes the baby a lot of stress. So the nurse had to push it back in and the doctor who was not in the room at that time had to rush in to cut me open. A few minutes later they brought Tim in and he sat and watched as they started cutting to get to the baby, and at 6:33 Lila was finally pulled out and taken to the warmer. I couldn't see her right away but Tim told me that she did have hair like I had hoped. A few moments later I heard her first cry. Before I knew it Tim brought Lila over for me to see and I started to cry because of how beautiful I thought she was. Thirty minutes later I was all stitched up and holding my new best girlfrend. Recovering is a little harder than I thought, but it is moving along. Pictures should be posted within the next hour.

Here we go

My life is going to change forever in 3 days. That's right.... only 3 more days of just a family of 3.

We recently discovered that our little girl is already a handful and darn right stubborn. She's in a BREECH position and doctor has said that the shape of my uterus just won't allow her to turn this late. After the confirming ultrasound 2 weeks ago, I did everything in the book to try and get her to turn. All the safe ones of course, all those "myths" about getting babies to turn. It was worth a shot I say.

BUT, needless to say, we've scheduled the c-section.

Yea... C-section. Can you say "freaked out"?

Our little girl will arrive in this world via C-section on October 22, 2012.
I'll admit it. I'm excited, but I'm still scared to undergo a major abdominal surgery with its extended recovery time. All worth it in the end, regardless of the marks left on my body.

Terrible Twos

I always think Levi is going through that "terrible two" stage.... but then it always seems to get worse a few weeks down the road.

He's just SO emotional.... but he sure knows how to push buttons. We'll see how these next few weeks go once his little sister makes her arrival.

Ugh, this weather!

For the last 3 weeks, Indiana weather has been just as crazy as Ohio's has ever been. Some days it's the AC, some days its just the windows, and some days the heat is on. Make up your mind mother nature!

Luckily the area of the house we spend the most time actually face south which keeps the house very warm yet still keeps the upstairs cooler for ideal sleeping. Today's temp is 52 degrees. I don't have the heat or anything else on but its over 74 degrees in the house because of the direct sunlight. I'm almost sweating.

More positive note: I'm officially FULL TERM, which means 37 weeks and baby would be able to function properly if born now (without any other medical conditions). We're not counting down the weeks anymore, we're counting the days. Only 19 to go til due date.

When people ask us what we think about Indiana, here is our response.

WE LOVE IT!

First and foremost, our ward is awesome. Growing up in our home ward in Springfield was hard for Tim and I since there were few younger families. Plus, I worked and didn't get to do playdates or spend time with Levi anyway.
Here in Fort Wayne, the ward has SO many young families. There's a playgroup every week for mother's with younger children. I call it my sanity saver group. Levi has already found himself a good friend who is only 3 months younger than him. We're thrilled he gets along so well with his friends.

Growing up in Springfield Ohio was so boring because you HAD to travel to Columbus, Beavercreek, or Dayton to do anything fun with your family. 

Fort Wayne is about the size of Dayton but has SO much more to offer. Lots of family activities including a butt load of parks, science central (think COSI), fort wayne children's zoo, etc.
Our mall here is nice (Comparable to Fairfield Commons in Ohio) and has a special "We Play Wednesday" activity for children ages 2-5. A merchant of the mall hosts the activity and usually the kids have a craft, make a treat, or watch a puppet show. Did I mention its FREE? (best part!)
This week was hosted by Sbarro Pizza. The kids got to make their own pizzas and eat lunch for free. There's also a carousel in the mall and the price of the usual $2.00 was cut to $0.50. I can spare 50 cents for my son to ride the carousel. In fact, since parents don't have to pay, we went twice and paid a dollar. Here are some pictures of Levi's FIRST carousel ride. HE LOVED IT.

Helping Daddy

Usually, when it starts raining- I don't catch it in time to get the dogs through the house into their kennels in the garage and they're usually filthy. So I either let them in while they're soaked (which they usually shake as soon as they're inside and get mud all over the floors) or I leave them outside in the rain.

I usually leave them outside in the rain. Especially with my "nesting" stage still in strong force.

 Until we have the funds to expand the fence around the house and put in a doggie door to the garage, we needed a short term solution. Tim decided to take down some shelving and storage pieces the last homeowners left and used it to make the dogs a dog house.
Levi always wants to help. So I found his plush toolbelt from grandma and grandpa Ruchty with all the tools and he came outside to help daddy.

 I seriously love this kid. Look at those baby blues. Growing up so FAST

 I feel like the receipt in hand is a work order and he's gone to pick up the lumber for his project. Luckily we had no smashed fingers or toes, and no splinters from the night.

He's going to LOVE doing stuff with Tim when he's older and more capable.

Anniversary - 4 years!

Tim and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary this weekend. On our actual anniversary date (the 27th) we headed out to dinner at Red Lobster with Levi. They have their endless shrimp special going on and we took advantage of it.

The Best Gift!

During our meal, a stranger approached our table and complimented us on our parenting style and said we were "really respectful towards our son and they really admired" us for it. They commented on how well behaved Levi was with all his "please" and "thank you's" and ended by saying "keep up the good work and God bless!"
What a wonderful compliment!! It made Tim and I feel like we were on cloud 9. At least we're doing something right!

Last Night (28th)Tim and I haven't been on an outing/date together since he started working for Therma-tru. No, not officially working but way back in January when he started his Co-op. 
Tim and I also take responsibility for being in charge of the celebration activities every other year. Tim is in charge of the ODD anniversary years and I'm in charge of the EVEN. 

SO, without Tim's knowledge (but he usually figures it out) I planned for a babysitter for Levi and found a local corn maze right up the road from the babysitter's house. Perfect!Here's Levi chilling in the backseat with a book on our way to the babysitter. (This was a camera test shot, but it turned out pretty cute)

Ever since we were first married we talked about how we wanted to do a corn maze together but we've never gone through with it. Well, we finally did it and had so much fun.
The corn maze was 15 acres (HUGE) but it was also a design with some of their sponsors. 

There were games throughout the maze. Correct answers directed you where to go and wrong answers took you the wrong direction.

The answer to the board behind us was "goose bumps"

The place also had other things. A pumpkin patch, a mini-maze made up of bales of hay for the kids, corn hole, tether-ball, and some other games you had to pay for. Oh and  place to take your picture!

In the middle of the maze there was a bridge so you could look over the corn maze. 

You had the option of taking the stairs back down the bridge or taking the slide.

We took the slide option- 3 TIMES.

How Exciting!

OK, so Tim just informed me that Fort Wayne is gaining a new restaurant. It will be the 8th location in the nation. I never got to eat there when I lived in Provo but I've heard SO many good reviews. In fact, I was sad when we left Provo and I had realized I never went. (Tim and I were too poor at that time to afford to eat out)

You guessed it....

I'm REALLY EXCITED

(I've heard their  Crème brûlée is fantastic)  

Terrified

SO, I'm terrified about going into labor sooner rather than later. I don't know why, I just am. I haven't been sleeping very well. Not because I'm uncomfortable but because I'm so anxious.  We head to bed around 10:30 and I sleep until about 2 a.m. which is when I have to use the bathroom. I'm then up every hour or so going to the bathroom. (weird) Then I wake up at 4:30 a.m. (for the past 2 days its been like this) and can not get back to sleep until Tim leaves for work.

What makes me even more nervous? Doc said 2nd births and so on progress faster so I need to be at the hospital sooner when contractions start. AND, I haven't packed my hospital bag or washed any of her clothes. Still need to unpack and find our receiving blankets, burp cloths, and nursing cover I used with Levi (who KNOWS where those are) I'm not feeling very prepared and I'm sure when it happens Levi will poop, say he's hungry, and throw a tantrum ALL at the same time while I'm trying to get out the door.

Levi's Latest and "Nesting"

As if I'm not clean-crazy already because of this whole "nesting" thing...Levi now decides to bring me every little thing off the floor which makes me feel like my house is a mess.

Ok, so I don't sweep right away after dinner, especially if dinner is not messy/saucy, full of crumbs, etc. So needless to say, the next morning after breakfast, Levi brings me tiny little crumbs or the single dog hair he finds on the floor. I guess I can't complain, at least he's not putting it in his mouth anymore.

I didn't nest with Levi, but it's way bad with this one. I get frustrated easily because I feel like my efforts are wasted, like there's no point in cleaning up with a husband and almost 2 year old undoing everything I just did. BUT, if I do put it off... I feel like a terrible housewife. Tim calls me crazy, and I'll gladly accept it. He has to tell me a million times that the house is not "filthy"..... (but it really is!!)

On a higher note:
Someone gave us another couch. The boards supporting it are broken and you sink WAY down, but Tim said he could fix it. I'm just glad to have more seating options or places for people to sleep when they visit.
Tim also got a bonus at work for doing a great job on a project. It was good and bad timing. It would have been nice to spend it on something more enjoyable, like some end tables, an ottoman/toy box downstairs for Levi, and a new play set or outdoor toys for Levi (he has NO outside toys) but it went towards my current medical bills for this pregnancy (which is good too!)

September 15, 2012

Most of the pictures were taken at a park that actually costs to get in. We didn't know this but since we showed up 30 minutes before the park closed, they let us in for free. (We'll have to remember this next time we just want a quick photo shoot)

Crazy times

Today we made our first mortgage payment. NOW it feels like we're officially homeowners. It's crazy! Here are some pictures of what we've been up to. Since we budgeted well when it came to our down payment, we ended up having the funds for a brand new washer and dryer. I was excited to do laundry! I'm sure that will change eventually. Levi was just as excited, because now we have 2 BIG boxes he gets to play with. Daddy made them more Levi-friendly. We've since connected the two boxes with a smaller box, so Levi has to go in one and crawl through a small tunnel to get into the other one.

I also found a killer deal on a new play yard. PLUS I had a 20% coupon that was actually sent to the previous homeowners. We needed another play yard in case we travel after the baby is born. It's a 3 stage play yard, so it works as a newborn napper, bassinet, and eventually a regular play yard. The newborn napper has a switch that allows it to unlock and turn over and become a changing area. This will substitute as our little girls sleeping arrangements while she's in our room in the first few weeks. We don't plan on transitioning Levi out of his crib just yet, our pediatrician recommended when he's two since he's not trying to climb out of his crib yet. Even then, Daddy plans on making Levi's toddler bed so the baby will inherit the crib.

Small Update

We're basically moved in. There are still like 8 or 9 small boxes that haven't been unpacked because they're just books. (church related, old school books, novels, etc). We'll probably turn the upstairs loft into an office/library/playroom/guest bedroom. It's plenty big enough.

We also moved into an AWESOME ward. There are so many young couples its ridiculous. Some have kids, some don't but everyone is basically within 10 years of each other. We've already made some friends so we're pretty happy about that.

Tim has been temporarily working 3rd shift lately, and it's messing our schedules up a lot.
Levi has turned into a monster. He's very impatient and gets upset easily when he doesn't get his way. If I'm not making lunch fast enough it's the END OF THE WORLD. So we're working on "waiting" and he seems to be doing better. So glad he's not in a toddler bed because time out in his room really helps my sanity some days (That's when I have the energy to carry him upstairs)
As for me, I'll be 32 weeks this Saturday. We're officially less than 2 months away! Sleeping is getting harder and she likes to sit right on my hip bone when I'm sitting. Just glad everything is going well. I am going to a dermatologist though. My doc saw a mole on my back and wants me to get it checked out. Hopefully it's nothing big, fingers crossed.

Bits of happiness

So Levi is talking so much more and he's sooo smart. He's finally getting over his frustration phase where he can't tell us what he wants. We obviously still have the occasional fits, but he's doing much better. Levi can now say all of his ABC's with just visual and no verbal help from us. He does forget  "E" sometimes and we have to remind him. And sometimes "P" comes out like "pete!"

We're working on numbers now and he's got most of them down but has a hard time with 4 and 5 because of the "f" sound. He also says "thank you" without being asked. In fact, I don't even expect it sometimes and after I've given him cereal or a sandwich out comes "tank toooo" and it makes me SO happy.

Colors are a different story, he hasn't grasped the concept yet.

Got the keys!

We got our keys yesterday, spent the afternoon just walking around the house taking it all in. There are a few places we need to touch up and clean but we don't mind. We did technically get the house 5 days earlier than what was in the agreement with the seller.

Strange week

This last week was weird. Nothing went according to plan, everyone was slightly irritated (mostly mine), and it dragged on forever.

 I also discovered that a friend of mine, Preston Anderson, committed suicide on the 17th. We attended BYU classes together and were in the same student ward.
Later in the school year, we didn't see eye to eye over a few things and after I moved back to Ohio we obviously lost touch.

My best memory of Preston was my first semester at BYU. We were both taking Economics 110. A truly "loathed" class. Probably my worst grade I have ever received in my entire life. Needless to say, a class size of over 600 students with a subject I could barely understand... well I sort of stopped going and only showed up for the final. Apparently there was a nice curve. All behind me now. Anyway, we had homework assignments due each week and they were due by the end of class on tuesdays.Preston and I found ourselves trying to finish our assignments tuesday morning, skipping class, and turning it in last minute. It was one time where he printed my paper for me and we jumped into his car and he sped, broke a few traffic laws to get to campus. I then took both of our assignments and RAN, yes RAN across campus to the Joseph Smith Building (JSB) to get it turned in on time. It was sooo funny and I think Preston and I ended up eating lunch together that day after our "stressful morning"

Preston will be missed and we're sending his family our thoughts and prayers.

And so it begins..

.. the back ache, the belly aches, no sleeping, can't get comfortable, weird vivid dreams, leg cramps.

All of these beautiful things that are a part of pregnancy. My doctor told me that after our first child, those pains tend to come a bit quicker since our bodies are aware of what's going on and change faster. If this means my ankles and feet start to swell sooner than later, I'm not going to be a happy camper. I told Tim I don't want to be pregnant in the summer with our next kid, especially with these ridiculous temperatures.

On a good note, I'm all baby. Today at my appointment, the nurse practitioner looked at me and said you're 25 weeks? You've got a tiny belly, and it's ALL baby. And I thought I was getting BIG. It's weird because she also sits on my right side, not in the center of my belly. Levi was the same way, never felt a single stretch, pain, or kick on my left. Which means I'm going to have a baby all up in my ribs making it difficult to breathe when I'm further along.

I guess what they say is true "No pain, no gain" (except for when birth occurs, then I'm counting on the epidural to help)

Being Grateful

Everyone posts it as some time in their "blogging life" or journal. Here are just a few

I'm grateful for my family that has overcome many obstacles in life.
I'm grateful for my healthy children (including yet to be born baby)
I'm grateful for the field of medicine and continuing breakthroughs.
I'm grateful for education.
I'm grateful for modern technology that allows me to keep in touch.

Next time we say our prayers, lets be more specific rather than summing them up as "blessings".

Pregnancy Brain

Soooo, I'm becoming VERY forgetful. I forget to do tasks that Tim has asked me to do since I'm home and I feel really bad about it. I forget to change Levi's diaper until I realize there is a wet spot on the floor (or my lap)

Apparently I also forget to eat. It didn't dawn on me until TODAY that I didn't eat lunch YESTERDAY. We don't use the microwave often except for reheating meals (occasionally for quick bacon). I even try to cook for lunch at times. Homemade pizza was dinner last night and I went to reheat some for lunch today. Behold!!! My bowl of tomato soup that was supposed to be yesterday's lunch was still in there. I do remember putting it in there, cooking it, AND really looking forward to it (Tomato is my favorite simple soup) but I guess I didn't remember to actually eat it.

I eat... A LOT. Which is why I'm beginning to think I might go crazy with this "pregnancy brain" because when it gets to the point that I start to forget the basic needs of life... that could be a problem.

Switching to Levi really quick. I've discovered he eats better when he's by himself. When we all sit at the table and he has food in front of him, he tends to play more often. If it's sitting in front of him and no one else is there to interact, he tends to eat more and all of his food, including his veggies. (This adds to my problem because I eat AFTER Levi does and it already down for a nap)

I made them last night. They were delicious. (Baby liked them) Very rich, you'll need a large glass of milk with these. Will I make them again? Probably, but there are so many more interesting things to make. Plus I'm waiting on a bigger kitchen. Apartment size kitchen just doesn't work when I'm cooking.

On a more frustrating side of things. Levi is going through this stage where everything we teach him is the same word. Whereas before he repeated or attempted to repeat the things we say. Now it's "Levi, say ____" and the response we get is "yeah"  (with a nod of the head) It's like he's saying 'yeah mom and dad, you said it right the first time'.
   Ugh.

*Also, can I say how much I really dislike homework for my BYU class right now. I have 12 assignments left to do, all of which are easily 10 typed pages* Ugh, again.

Quick and Random

Our little girl is going to be a soccer player just like her momma!  This girl is so active, it's like she never takes a break. In fact, I'm starting to feel movement so strong and powerful that it's sometimes painful.

While I couldn't be more happy about her being healthy I'm a little worried she'll be a handful. I'm hoping she tires herself out in there and sleeps as well as Levi did once she's born. Once can only hope.

Sad Day

Unfortunately, no 4th of July celebrations happened this year. We haven't had rain and with these hot temperatures, the towns and cities cancelled fireworks and made them illegal to set off on your own. Which is smart, we don't need quickly spreading wildfires here.
We did go to a church party but Levi ended up spilling red juice all over himself and we had to go home early. Turned out the juice also stained his skin!
We've actually been staying inside to stay cool. Levi and I don't last long in the heat (especially 100+ degrees).

On another note, I'm having a little struggle with Levi's nap time. I swear he never gets tired. All these photos and blogs about their kids falling asleep on the floor, on the couch, while eating in the high chair. etc. It just doesn't happen with this kid. Occasionally in the car on longer trips, but not always. (I drove back to Ohio last weekend and he was awake the entire drive, 2 1/2 hours) Anyway, Levi's nap is officially after lunch for about 2 hours. However, I think he's only sleeping about 1/2 hour maybe 45 minutes of it. *sigh* I guess he's just having quiet time when he's not sleeping.

Maggie

Tim trains our younger yellow lab, Maggie, everyday after work. He's working with her to hunt waterfowl. She's picking up on stuff pretty quick and Tim is having a great time doing it.
Last night's training session was decent weather, so we all went. While Levi played around the yard, I took some photos. (As you can see, we haven't had rain for weeks and the weather has been blazin' hot. I'm sad that our grass is all dried out and brown.)

Father's Day

We always celebrate our "Sunday holidays" the day before. That way, Sunday is still a special day to spend with family, go to church, and making sure we are keeping the Sabbath day holy.
(However, for Father's day, gifts come on Sunday morning)

Saturday we all slept in! It was GLORIOUS. We woke up and ate a small breakfast then made our way down to Fort Wayne. It was supposed to be hot later and we didn't want Levi getting too warm. It's nice that Fort Wayne has a lot of things going on during the summer and this weekend was RIBFEST. Tim was thrilled to say the least.



After stuffing ourselves we came home and all napped. Again, GLORIOUS.
We then woke up and went swimming at Tim's boss's house. They have a lot of land, big house and HUGE pool. This was Levi's first time in a pool. He hated it for the first 10 minutes but then once he was used to the water temperature, he LOVED it. I'm happy he's not afraid of being in water. We didn't swim long because a thunderstorm came, but we were thankful for the rain. We've been missing it a lot here.
We ended the night putting Levi down for the night and then enjoyed each other's company with a movie. (We bought all three "The Mummy" movies for 12 bucks. SCORE)

Sunday morning, we woke up late since we went to bed late. I was able to get Levi up before Tim and have him take his Daddy a present. If we count the time I was pregnant with Levi, this will be Tim's 3rd Father's day. And every time he's gotten a new tie. It's basically a tradition. And Levi (future kids) will always help pick it out. This years tie is blue, yellow, red, orange, green, purple?? I can't remember, but I know it's colorful. My gift to Tim was a card and then something I found on Pinterest. It's a keychain stamped "lucky us" and then pennies for the years 2010 and 2012. Which are the birth years of our children.


We ended up having cinnamon waffles for breakfast then made our way to Church. Some friends from Church also ended up inviting us over for dinner that night and we played games with their kids. It was a GREAT weekend.
